Improving Mental Health Outcomes: A Guide to Section 1477

Section Overview

This section of the law aims to improve mental health outcomes for individuals experiencing homelessness and those with significant behavioral health issues.

Goals and Objectives

  • Provide access to primary care providers
  • Improve health outcomes for individuals with mental health conditions
  • Reduce homelessness among individuals with significant behavioral health issues

Grant Allocation and Distribution

Grants will be allocated to private nonprofit organizations, government entities, public housing agencies, and other eligible entities.

No funds shall be used to reimburse a grantee for any expenses incurred prior to the date of enactment of this Act.

Reporting Requirements

  1. A report on activities carried out under the grant must be submitted to the Secretary within one year after the date on which grant amounts are first received.
  2. The report must include measures of outcomes relating to housing stability, treatment enrollment, and health improvements for individuals assisted with grant funds.

AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS

There is authorized to be appropriated $20,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2025 through 2030, of which not less than 5 percent shall be awarded to Indian Tribes, tribally designated housing entities, and Tribal organizations.
