Gavin Newsom Joins Climate Alliance Group

Gavin Newsom's Latest Appointment to Another Climate Hustle Association

Governor Gavin Newsom has been appointed as co-chair of the U.S. Climate Alliance, joining a group of 24 governors from across the country in their efforts to combat climate change.

The Alliance's Goals and Actions

The U.S. Climate Alliance aims to reduce emissions by half by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050, while building resilience in the face of increasing climate impacts.

  • Compared to the rest of the country, Alliance members are collectively delivering more: Air Pollution Reduction, Emissions Reduction, Climate Action, Clean Energy, Economic Benefits, Energy Savings, and Zero-Carbon Projects
  • The Alliance has grown since its launch in 2017 by the governors of Washington, New York, and California to help fill the void left by President Trump's initial decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Agreement.

What Does the Alliance Actually Do?

The Alliance Secretariat regularly convenes Working Groups to deepen member collaboration, share lessons and best practices, and provide services and tools to help members advance high-impact action across their 10 policy priorities.

  • Capacity Building: Providing resources and support to help members build their capacity for climate action
  • Partnerships: Collaborating with other organizations and stakeholders to advance the Alliance's goals
  • Federal Engagement: Working with federal policymakers to advance the Alliance's policy priorities
  • Historic Federal Resources: Leveraging funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to support state-led climate action

More of Newsom's Climate Hustle Efforts

Governor Newsom has been announced as a key player in several other climate initiatives, including the use of innovative satellite technology to cut methane pollution and the launch of a groundbreaking state effort to tackle this pollution.

"We Are Truly Masters of Our Own Destiny."

This quote appears in the Alliance's press releases and highlights the group's commitment to taking action on climate change.

The Cost: Rent-Seeking and Lack of Accountability

The U.S. Climate Alliance does not produce any tangible results, but rather focuses on advancing policy priorities through a series of convenings and dialogues with federal policymakers and other stakeholders.

Investopedia defines rent-seeking as an economic concept where an entity seeks to gain wealth without making any contribution to the benefit of society.
