Amador County Sheriff Honored for Leadership
Amador County Sheriff Gary Redman Honored for Upholding Rule of Law
The American Constitutional Rights Union has recognized Amador County Sheriff Gary Redman as the recipient of their prestigious Defender Award, a recognition that acknowledges his commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens.
A Common Sense Approach to Public Safety
Sheriff Redman is the first sheriff in California to publicly state that he will cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when dealing with criminal illegal aliens. He emphasizes that his policy is not an anti-immigration stance, but rather a public safety measure designed to protect members of the community from violent offenders.
"I'm the first Sheriff to come out strong on a common sense public safety approach," Sheriff Redman told The Globe in an interview.
"I am going to work with ICE. If I have an illegal alien in my jail who is going to be released, I am going to work with ICE," Sheriff Redman stated.https://californiaglobe.com/fr/amador-county-sheriff-redman-honored-for-upholding-the-rule-of-law-and-protecting-citizens/
The 287(g) Program and Its Benefits
The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 added Section 287(g) to the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), authorizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions under the agency's direction and oversight.
- The 287(g) Program enhances the safety and security of our nation's communities by allowing ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) to partner with state and local law enforcement.
A Critique of California's Sanctuary Policies
California has notoriously been pushing criminal's rights over victims and their families, Sheriff Redman said. The author of Senate Bill 54, then-Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De León (D-Los Angeles), claimed that "immigrants are valuable and essential members of the California community" but deliberately conflated "immigrants" and "criminal illegal aliens."
"Sanctuary cities are trying to prevent federal officials from finding out about criminal alien murderers, rapists, and other violent criminals that these cities would apparently rather release than have picked up and deported so they cannot further victimize Americans," Sheriff Redman stated.
A Call to Action for Law Enforcement Agencies
Col. Allen West, Executive Director of the American Constitutional Rights Union, praised Sheriff Redman's leadership and dedication to preserving American citizens' rights to safety and security through their partnership with the 287(g) program.
"This award acknowledges their leadership and dedication to preserving American citizens' rights to safety and security through their partnership with the 287(g) program. All law enforcement agencies should take note and follow this lead to fully embrace the authorization afforded to designated officers through these models. Well done," Source:
