HR 2290 IH: World War II Women’s Memorial Location Act

SUBJECT: SHORT TITLE
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘World War II Women’s Memorial Location Act’’.
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘World War II Women’s Memorial Location Act’’.
SECTION 2. FINDINGS
Congress finds that—
(1) during World War II, more than18,000,000 women answered the call during a globalcrisis to hold down the home front by working aspiLOTS, engineers, mechanics, code breakers, and more,
building planes, tanks, munitions, and other equipment needed by United States troops, and serving asthe backbone of the war effort;
(2) section 702 of division DD of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 (40 U.S.C. 890311note; Public Law 117–328), authorized the WorldWar II Women’s Memorial Foundation (formerlyknown as the ‘‘Women Who Worked on the HomeFront Foundation’’)
to establish a commemorative work on Federal land in the District of Columbiaand its environs to commemorate the service and sacrifice to the United States of the women who worked on the home front during World War II;
(3) locating the commemorative work describedin paragraph (2) on the National Mall would be arespectful extension of the enduring legacy of the women who worked on the home front during WorldWar II.
SECTION 3. LOCATION OF COMMEMORATIVE WORK
Notwithstanding section 8908 of title 40, UnitedStates Code, the commemorative work to commemoratethe commitment and service of the women who worked onthe home front during World War II authorized by section702 of division DD of the Consolidated Appropriations Act,2023 (40 U.S.C. 8903 note; Public Law 117–328), may be located within—
(1) Area I, as depicted on the map entitled‘‘Commemorative Areas Washington, DC and Environ”’,numbered869/86501B, and dated June 24,2003;
(2) the Reserve (as defined in section 8902(a)of title 40, United States Code).
