Loved Ones Interment Act

A BILL
To amend title 38, United States Code, to authorize the
Secretary of Veterans Affairs to furnish headstones and markers for certain veterans for whom
urns were previously furnished when such veterans are interred with
other eligible individuals, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Loved Ones Interment4
Act’’.
SECTION 2. DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS HEADSTONES
AND MARKERS FOR CERTAIN CREMATED
Section 2306(h)(2) of title 38, United States Code,
is amended—

(1) by redesignating subparagraphs (A) and7
(B) as clauses (i) and (ii), respectively; -
(2) by striking ‘‘If the Secretary’’ and inserting9
‘‘(A) Except as provided in subparagraph (B), if the10
Secretary’’; -
(3) by adding at the end the following new sub-12
paragraph (B):‘‘(B) In the case of a deceased individual referred to14
in subsection (a) who is cremated and for whom an urn15
or commemorative plaque is furnished under paragraph16
(1), the Secretary may also furnish a headstone or marker17
for the individual if—18‘‘(i) the individual is interred at the same burial19
site as another individual referred to in section20
2402(a) of this title;21‘‘(ii) the headstone or marker furnished includes information about both such individuals; and23
‘‘(iii) the inclusion of such information does not1
increase the cost of the headstone or marker beyond2
the maximum amount permitted under law.’’.
