Recognition of Somaliland as a Separate Country: H.R. 3992
On June 12, 2025, Representative Perry introduced a bill (H.R. 3992) to the U.S. House of Representatives, which aims to recognize Somaliland of the Federal Republic of Somalia as a separate and independent country.
Short Title
This Act may be cited as the “Republic of Somaliland Independence Act”.
Statement of Policy; Authorization
It is the policy of the United States that all territorial claims by the Federal Republic of Somalia over the area known as Somaliland are invalid and without merit.
The President is authorized to recognize Somaliland of the Federal Republic of Somalia as a separate, independent country, in accordance with subsection (a).
