DOD Drops Household Goods Shipping Services for Permanant Change of Station Moves
HomeSafe Alliance will no longer provide household goods shipping services for the Defense Department and Coast Guard, according to a recent announcement by Commander of the Permanent Change of Station Joint Task Force Army Maj. Gen. Lance G. Curtis.
Background on HomeSafe Alliance
The DoD relied heavily on HomeSafe Alliance for its household goods shipping services. However, in 2020, Congress passed the Federal Property Management Reform Act, which aimed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government property management.
The law required the DoD to explore alternative options for household goods shipping. In response, HomeSafe Alliance announced that it would no longer provide these services, effective immediately.
What’s Next for Household Goods Shipping?
The DoD is now seeking to develop a new program that will provide more efficient and cost-effective solutions for military personnel and their families moving for Permanant Change of Station moves.
“The goal is to create a system that works better for everyone, from the service members to the contractors who support them,” said Commander Curtis. “We’re committed to finding innovative solutions that meet our needs while also being more efficient and cost-effective.”
