Africa Command’s Strategy Aligns with National Defense Strategy
During an interview at the Pentagon, Marine Corps Gen. Michael Langley, U.S. Africa Command’s commander, said Africom’s approach aligns with the National Defense Strategy and guidance from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
African Regional Security Cooperation
Africom’s strategy focuses on building relationships and capacities within the region to enhance security cooperation and address transnational threats.
- Builds partnerships with African countries to share intelligence, best practices, and resources for security operations
- Supports regional organizations, such as the African Union and ECOWAS, in their efforts to promote peace and stability
- Enhances regional defense infrastructure, including air bases, ports, and logistics facilities
Burden Sharing and Protection of US Homeland
Africom’s strategy also emphasizes burden sharing with African countries to address security challenges and protect the US homeland.
“We need African partners who can take ownership of their own security, rather than relying solely on us,” said General Langley. “By working together, we can build more effective and sustainable solutions for global threats.”
