National Public Works Week: Recognizing the Heroes of Our Infrastructure
In recognition of the vital role public works professionals play in ensuring our communities’ health, safety, and quality of life, Congress has passed H.R. 427, a resolution acknowledging National Public Works Week. This year’s theme, ‘People, Purpose, Presence,’ highlights the importance of these unsung heroes.
The bill was submitted by Ms. C, Mr. Van Drew, and Ms. Titus and referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. It is the 65th annual National Public Works Week, which took place from May 18 to 24, 2025.
What are Public Works Professionals Doing?
Public works professionals and first responders work tirelessly to maintain our infrastructure, facilities, and services. They are responsible for rebuilding, improving, and protecting the Nation’s transportation systems, water supply, water treatment plants, solid waste systems, public buildings, and other essential structures and facilities.

Public works professionals are often first responders during natural disasters or incidents. They risk their lives to ensure our communities’ safety and well-being.
The Importance of Recognizing Public Works Professionals
It is essential for everyone living in the United States to understand the significance of public works and public works programs in their communities. We must recognize the substantial contributions these professionals make in protecting our country’s health, safety, and quality of life.
